Canada’s junior team — featuring B.C.’s Thomas Venos and Tomas Bourassa, as well as Ontario’s Puisand Lai — placed fourth at the 2017 BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Sardinia, Italy. Canada narrowly lost 2-1 against Brazil.
Tomas Bourassa defeated F. Bernardes 6-1, 6-4. Tomas Venos battled against J. Torquato, but lost 6-4, 6-2. Team T(h)omas combined to battle in doubles, but ultimately went down 7-5, 6-4.
Though the loss is heartbreaking, the team has already qualified for next year’s event in Holland. They also were aiming for a 6th place finish, so they defied expectations and rose to the pressure of this event.
Canada’s quad team — which featured B.C.’s Sarah Hunter, Rob Shaw (who trains in Kelowna) and Ontario’s Gary Luker– placed sixth.
Congratulations to all of the BCWSA members who participated in this event! We are always proud when our athletes and coaches get a chance to wear the maple leaf.
