Team BC Keeps the Momentum going on Day 2 in Montreal

Team BC had another successful day at the 2019 Birmingham National Wheelchair Championships!
Thomas Venos and Barry Henderson remained undefeated in Singles and Doubles and Kirsten Sharp booked her place in the Women’s semifinals
Men’s Singles
#1 seed Thomas Venos (Anmore) got the best of #6 seed Marko Golic 6/1 6/3 to finish at the top of Group 1 entering Saturday’s Championship Qualifying Flight.
#2 seeded Barry Henderson (Mission) made quick work of #8 Gabriel Cyr (Quebec) in a 6/0 6/0 victory to clinch the top spot in Group 2.
Women’s Singles
Top-seeded Kirsten Sharp (Vancouver) dropped a tough 3-set match 3/6 6/0 6/2 to Anne Marie Dollnar (Ontario), before bouncing back to win 6/2 6/4 over Gillian Cruz (Ontario) to clinch a spot in the semifinals and keep her title hopes alive.
Women’s Doubles
Kirsten Sharp and Candice Combdon (Ontario) fell in straight sets 6/0 6/0 to Maude Jacques and Natalie Lanucha (Quebec) in their final match.
Men’s Doubles
Thomas and Barry teamed in up in doubles and made it through the quarterfinals without dropping a set by winning 6/0 6/0 against Paul Pepin and Gabriel Cyr (Quebec)
What’s Next for Team BC
Men’s Singles
After finishing atop their respective groups, Barry and Thomas will play in the Championship Qualifying Flight. Thomas will face #5 seed Shawn Courchesne (Ontario) and Barry will meet #6 seed Marko Golic (Ontario)
Women’s Singles
Kirsten will play Natalie Lanucha (Quebec) for a spot in Sunday’s final.
Men’s Doubles
Thomas and Barry have drawn their Singles opponents Shawn Courchesne and Marko Golic (Ontario) in Doubles as well. They’ll compete for a spot in Sunday’s final.
