BC Wheelchair Sports will be highlighting the programs and people that help us change lives through sport.
This week we’re putting the spotlight on the City of Kelowna’s Junior Wheelchair Tennis Program!
Launched in the fall of 2019 as a pilot program, this weekly wheelchair tennis program gives children and youth with disabilities in the Okanagan an opportunity to get active, make friends, and learn wheelchair tennis skills. Led by hardworking coach Eva Miller, the program has four regular participants who have fun and push hard every week!
One of these participants is our featured athlete Sam. The youngster has been with the program since it’s started and looks forward to attending practice each week. He’s picked up the sport quickly and has even had the opportunity to meet and hit with Parapan Am Champion Rob Shaw, who visited the program and showed his medal to participants last year.
We’d like to thank the City of Kelowna, Parkinson Rec Centre, and Eva Miller for helping remove barriers and create opportunities for youth with disabilities to get active and involved in sport.
