BC Wheelchair Sports Statement on Tennis Canada’s Cancellation of 2021 Canadian ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tournaments
-
massive-dev | March 29, 2021
BC Wheelchair Sports is in full support of Tennis Canada’s decision to cancel a number of Canadian ITF events scheduled for 2021 including our ITF Futures Vancouver International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament and the ITF Futures Kamloops Legacy Games Wheelchair Tennis Tournament.
The reality of the current COVID-19 situation in Canada combined with current restrictions on sport, travel and social gatherings made this decision an unfortunate but necessary one. While this news is disappointing to all those involved in our tournaments and especially to our athletes, the safety and welfare of all participants, coaches, officials and volunteers has be the top priority of both Tennis Canada and BC Wheelchair Sports.
Our wheelchair tennis programs will continue to run within our current Return to Sport Guidelines and we will continue to monitor all public health orders and their impact on sport.
We hope to welcome competitors and spectators from around the world back to BC in 2022 to take in the excitement and athleticism of wheelchair tennis.
