BC Wheelchair Sports Return to Sport Update – August 25, 2020
On August 24th, the Province of British Columbia and viaSport BC announced that sport in BC is permitted to move to Phase 3 – the “Progressively Loosen” stage of the provincial Return to Sport framework.
BCWSA will be beginning to plan for this next phase and continue to research and evaluate how we can operate our programs in the safest possible manner. This announcement means that Provincial Sport Organisations may now begin to transition into Sport Phase 3, although each organization and sport will progress at a different pace. As a result, BCWSA will be beginning to plan for Level 3 of each of our sports’ Return to Sport plans and continue to research and evaluate how we can operate our programs in the safest possible manner.
Currently, BCWSA remains in Level 2 of our Return to Sport plan across all three of our sports and we are continuing to work on resuming programming within the BCWSA Level 2 Guidelines which were published over the past two months. All BCWSA affiliated clubs and programs must follow the BCWSA Guidelines to receive sanctioning, funding and liability protection.
As the Return to Sport process evolves, we will release amendments to our guidelines to support the transition to Sport Phase 3 on a sport-specific basis, and we will be striving for alignment where possible with our national partners at Wheelchair Rugby Canada, Tennis Canada, and Athletics Canada.
We share in our community’s excitement to get back to the sports they love and continue to place health and safety at the core of our decision making.
We will continue to update our membership via our website, social media, and online newsletter as changes occur and more information becomes available.
Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this challenging process as we work to return to the field of play.
