BCWSA is excited to announce the list of athletes selected to the 2024 BC Provincial Wheelchair Tennis Program.
Headlined by three reigning Canadian Champions in Thomas Venos, Mitch McIntyre, and John Chen. This year’s program is made entirely of returnees and will be coached by Head Coach Sarah Hunter and Assistant Coach Matt Bees.
Venos, 24 is a four-time Canadian Men’s Singles champion and 5-time Men’s Doubles champion with 12 ITF titles to his name across Singles and Doubles. He’ll be joined in the Men’s Division by frequent Doubles partner and Parapan Am Games teammate Barry Henderson, plus a trio of improving returnees in Mark Hansen, Patrick Levis, and Se-Youn Moon.
World no. 29 Mitch McIntyre captured his first Canadian Quad Singles title last year and gives BC a strong representative in the Quad Division. An experienced wheelchair tennis player, Mitch has multiple titles to his name and is a three-time Vancouver International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament champion.
A pair of talented teenagers round out this year’s team in John Chen and Lachlan Sandford, who often compete in the Men’s and Junior Divisions of tournaments. John has won the past two Canadian Junior Singles titles, while Lachlan continues to make huge strides in his game and picked up multiple victories at last year’s Birmingham Nationals.
We look forward to a thrilling 2024 season on the ITF UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour and at the 2024 Birmingham Nationals.
