PURPOSE: The BC Provincial Wheelchair Tennis League was created in partnership between BC Wheelchair Sports Association (BCWSA) and Tennis Canada to provide wheelchair tennis players in the province with local match play opportunities. The league is intended as a first immersion into tournament play and a stepping stone to International Tennis Federation (ITF) sanctioned events in Canada and internationally.
FORMAT: BCWSA will schedule “League Days” throughout the spring, summer and fall at various locations throughout the GVRD. These match play sessions will last between 3 -5 hours depending on court availability and the number of participants on any given day. Possible formats include Pool Play, Round Robin or Direct Elimination. A full best of 3 set match (with or without 3rd set tie break), a pro set with or without no-ad scoring or other formats may be played. The final format of play will be decided by BCWSA on a per event basis once registrations for that date have been received.
Players will officiate their own matches and report the score back to a designated individual on-site.
CATEGORIES OF PLAY: Singles matches will be played in an advanced player division. BCWSA will assess the level of players willing to enter the competition. Should there be enough interest a beginners division may be offered as well. Doubles play may be added to the league days depending on time and courts available.
Players will receive ranking points based on their singles results. The ranking points will go towards a newly created BC provincial ranking system (similar to the National Rogers Ranking system). The rankings will be updated after each league date. No ranking points will be given for doubles results.
REGISTRATION: Players wishing to participate in a League Day must register no later than one week prior to that league date. Players are expected to arrive at the League Day on time. Should players need to cancel last minute, they must contact Michelle McDonell at firstname.lastname@example.org or 604-961-2516. Registration fees are non-refundable for players who cancel within 48 hours of the League Day start time.
TENNIS BALLS: Tennis balls for the League Days will be provided by the BCWSA.
COST: The cost for each League Day will be $10 per participant. This will allow for coverage of court fees and tennis balls.
