General Information

Powersoccer is an exciting and competitive sport played by individuals with many different types of disabilities. The sport of Powersoccer has been played for over 20 years and is currently played in Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan. In 2004 the first International Powersoccer Tournament was held in Indiana, USA. Powersoccer is played inside a gymnasium, with teams made up of four players to a side. Players manoeuvre an oversized soccer ball strategically, to score on the opposing team.

Powersoccer was introduced to the BC Games for Athletes with a Disability in 1982 and is open to anyone who uses an electric wheelchair for mobility and operates the chair safely. BC Powersoccer currently has players ranging in age from six to fifty years and welcomes anyone to come and join in. Currently, there are 3 teams (Vancouver, Surrey, Penticton/Kelowna) and a group near Bellingham, WA, actively competing and practising in the lower mainland. An annual tournament is held in British Columbia as part of the BC Disability Games.

BC Powersoccer is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, who are committed to developing the sport of Powersoccer throughout British Columbia. The organization is actively involved in promoting the sport of Powersoccer through demonstrations and special events, and organizing programs and tournaments.

For more information about how to get involved, including practice times in Vancouver and Surrey, or information on purchasing balls and foot guards, contact Cheryl or Gordon Epp at 604.596.1044; email epp@lightspeed.ca.
