Michelle Stilwell Named Flagbearer for 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships
BC wheelchair racer Michelle Stilwell has been selected as the flagbearer for the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand. On Friday at noon, Stilwell headed up the Canadian contingent and carried her country's flag into the Opening Ceremonies.
For Stilwell, who won a gold with Canada on the wheelchair basketball national team in Sydney and has set several world records in wheelchair athletics, being chosen as a flagbearer is an honour that she does not take lightly.
"This is one of the greatest honours of my sporting career," she said in an email to her supporters. "For many years, I have had the privilege to represent Canada at multiple international competitions. I have been inspired by my fellow athletes and I have always strived for excellence, pushing myself further than I thought I could and harder than many people wanted me to."
You can follow Stilwell's progress on her blog at www.mikeystilwell.com. From all of us at BC Wheelchair Sports: congratulations, Mikey, and good luck at the World Championships!

BC Track Championships
Well another great track meet in our series. Our athletes set some PB's and some SB's. The BC Track Championships were held in Abbotsford the second weekend in July at Rotary Stadium, a good warm up for our Canada Games team BC to compete together and get to know some Alberta athletes before heading off to the games in August.
Thanks to all who participated and supported our athletes in their racing.
