In order for an individual to experience meaningful success in wheelchair sports, it is important that they use a sport specific wheelchair designed for increased mobility and the tactics of the game. Because these wheelchairs often cost in excess of $3000, the costs of participation may be prohibitive to some. To address this need, the Wheelchair Loan Program makes sport wheelchairs available for ongoing BCWSA programs and new participants not having the means to purchase their own. The program attempts to balance the use of wheelchairs between developmental and high performance programs. Attempts will be made to distribute the wheelchairs prior to the various sport specific seasons. Wheelchairs are provided on a time-limited basis and athletes are responsible for eventually acquiring their own sport wheelchairs. When members acquire their own wheelchairs, BCWSA will endeavour to provide assistance to members in accessing funding.
