BCWSA SportsFunder Travel Grant Program
BC Wheelchair Sports is pleased to be able to offer the BCWSA Athlete Travel Assistance Program. This program is funded with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts and in conjunction with the new SportsFunder lottery program. The intention of the program is assist youth (18 years and younger) and developmental athletes in the cost of travel to attend designated events in the province.

Grants, awards and bursaries
There are a number of grants, awards and bursaries available to wheelchair athletes. While funding is limited, BC Wheelchair Sports will endeavour to meet as many requests as possible for applicants meeting the criteria. However, please note that BC Wheelchair Sports does not administer all of these awards.
ProMOTION Plus Leadership Awards
To identify, recognize and celebrate the accomplishment(s) of an individual or group in BC who has challenged the traditional limits attributed to women and girls in physical activity and sport, and in doing so has encouraged them to participate more fully in physical activity and sport as participants, competitors, and leaders. 2007 Bobbie Steen Awards of Excellence
Two (2) Bobbie Steen Awards of Excellence are awarded annually, one as a Career Achievement Award and one as a Development Award. Details and application form available at www.promotionplus.org.
2007 Bobbie Steen Legacy Foundation Award
The Bobbie Steen Legacy Foundation has been created to provide financial
support to charitable activities dedicated to advancing gender equity in
physical activity and sport and/or the community betterment resulting from
female involvement in physical activity and sport. Details and application

2007 PNE Miracle Mile Athlete Bursary
The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) is once again offering twelve $500 grants to amateur athletes in 2008. The application deadline is the 15th of every month, prior to the next grant.
Applications of athletes who are NOT awarded a bursary will be kept on file and reconsidered for each bursary awarded during the remaining months of the 2007 calendar year. For more information and to apply, please visit application form on their website.

BCPA's Access to Leisure - Leisureship Program
This program offered by the BC Parapalegic Association, provides funding for leisure activities within your community. "Leisureships" are grants of up to $100 per person (maximum amount) awarded annually to individuals with disabilities for the purpose of taking part in "ongoing style" leisure activities which they may not otherwise be able to afford.

WISE FUND - Women in Sport Encouragement Fund
The Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) with support from Sport Canada offers an annual grant opportunity to individuals and/or organizations that meet the WISE Fund criteria. The WISE grant has been created to help fund sport initiatives and assist members of the sport community in Canada.

The Stacey Levitt Women and Sport Scholarship
A Scholarship is in memory of a very special 18-year-old woman who was fatally struck down by a car while she was jogging on August 30, 1995. She was a superior athlete, a top student, and loved by many.This scholarship is open to a young woman, a girls' team, or a sport organization that exemplifies Stacey's ideals and qualities. Carol Anne Letheren Scholarship
The Carol Anne Letheren Leadership and Sport Scholarship is a national, three-year, $1,500 per year, university scholarship awarded to an outstanding female high school graduate.
