BCWSA volunteer honoured at Sport BC's Annual Awards

The Sport BC Presidents' Awards promote and celebrate the spirit of volunteerism by giving member organizations an opportunity to acknowledge and thank an individual who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and commitment to their sport.

For the past five years, Bob Hirschfield has worked tirelessly as a wheelchair rugby volunteer for BC Wheelchair Sports Association. His various roles include: leader of the Victoria Rugby program, head coach of the provincial B-team, assistant coach of the provincial A-team and key volunteer for Canada's Wheelchair Rugby Team. His involvement began when his son, Trevor, now a member of the National team, became involved in the sport. His warm personality and his great sense of humor made him an instant hit with the athletes in the province and his hard work and commitment to the sport made him a valuable member of both the National and Provincial Team which earned him the nickname: "the go-to guy". Bob's duties are varied and include, but are not limited to: coach, mechanic, driver, mover of equipment, referee, statistician and cook. He is a great leader to both athletes who are trying the sport for the first time as well as veteran athletes who are looking for an edge to improve their game. BC Wheelchair Sports Association is very proud to present this award to one of our most outstanding volunteers.

The Presidents' Awards is sponsored by The Honourable Olga Ilich and the British Columbia Ministry of Tourism, Sports and the Arts as well as the Sport and Physical Activity Branch, Charles Parkinson, Director.
