Athlete Assistance Program funding for athletes with a disability receives significant boost
BC Wheelchair Sports welcomes the recent announcement that an increase in funding for athletes with a disability means a jump from the $12,290 of past years to $100,000.
The BC Athlete Assistance Program (BC AAP) is an athlete-centred program of financial assistance funded by the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts. The BC AAP seeks to recognize and support high-performance athletes striving to represent British Columbia, their post-secondary institutions and Canada in athletic competition.
BCWSA is very appreciative of the support provided for BC's wheelchair athletes through the BC Athlete Assistance Program. This funding provides much needed financial assistance to help defray training expenses.
Kathy Newman, Executive Director of BC Wheelchair Sports Association states that the organization is pleased to see the Government of British Columbia provide a significant increase in funding which will certainly assist athletes with a disability in BC work toward their performance goals.
